1. Adjust Your Thermostat When Entertaining
If you’re hosting for the holidays, having more people in your home and cooking for them can create a warmer environment. To prevent overheating, lower your thermostat by 3 to 5 degrees as your day starts. While you may be chilly before your guests arrive, this strategy will keep both your guests comfortable and your holiday heating bill affordable.
2. Change Your Furnace Filter Before any of your guests arrive, be sure to check your filter. A fresh filter will keep air moving through your home and trap any dust, dirt, debris, allergens, or contaminants in your air. Changing your furnace filter before your guests arrive will ensure your heating system is running efficiently and your guests are breathing clean air.
3. Utilize Your Ceiling Fans
Before you resort to cranking up the thermostat, consider using your ceiling fan to keep your home comfortable. Warm air will naturally rise to the ceiling, but setting your ceiling fans to spin clockwise will force warm air back to your living areas. This trick allows you to redistribute the heat that’s already inside your home, instead of adding extra. The holidays can be a stressful time, so don’t spend time worrying over your heating system.
